Design: Radford 14
| Crew: Richard Edmunds (11), Sidmouth; Toby
Edmunds (2); David Milne (5), Dilston; Paul
Stancombe (4), Launceston; Steve Bence (2),
Launceston.
Winner of the race in 1995 and holder of
the overall race record, Richard Edmunds
team must be considered to be possibility
to win the race. If experience counts then
Richard has plenty. In addition to having
competed in all Australian Three Peaks
Races, he has also competed in the British
Three Peaks Race. He is also a regular
competitor in the annual Melbourne to
Hobart race and the Sydney to Hobart race.

real pleasure I just had to come back and
do it in my own boat." We thought that
he was taking it seriously!", Damien

An entry in the Classics
Division, this 25 metre schooner New
Horizon sailing as Island Fresh will
give the crew a quick and comfortable trip
with the power to push hard in tougher
conditions. Competing last year for the
first time, New Horizon gave her large crew
a great trip even to the extent of doing a
spot of fishing along the way!
The challenge this year will be to
better the previous running time at Mt
Freycinet where the runners lost the track
and decided to "camp" to daylight
before resuming the race. They are credited
with the record longest running time for
the leg, 19 hours, 17 minutes and 32
seconds. Lets see how the runners this year
fare.
Quote: "The crew is made up of 7
males and 7 females. Now there's equality
for you!"

Team 4: Haphazard
Design: Radford 14
Crew: Nick Edmunds (11) from Sidmouth.
David Wright, (11), Bridgenorth; Scott
Inglis (2), Clarence Point; Sam Edmunds,
(3) Sidmouth; Mick Lee (5), Low Head.
The elusive winning position has been
hard chased by Nick and his crew but had to
be satisfied with third place last time.
Winning the race in 1991 he has gone close
at times to scoring a second win. With
David Wright being in his team since 1989
Nick always brings one of the more
experienced teams to the race in his
distinctive orange hulled yacht. Like
his brother Richard, Nick has competed in
all Australian Three Peaks races and also
in the British Three Peaks race. He too is
a regular competitor in the annual
Melbourne to Hobart race and the Sydney to
Hobart race.

do". |

Team 5: D & D Tolhurst
Design: Robin Chamberlin 30 foot catamaran
Crew: Phillip Marshall (7) Port Sorell; Marc Ellingsen (7) Legana; Ken Tyson
(1) Devonport; Les Savage(7) Devonport; David Kent (2) Devonport.
Newly launched, this lightweight catamaran should revel in light to medium
reaching and running conditions. Given that this race rarely has those conditions
for the whole course they will have to work hard for a top placing. However
the crew is very experienced and they are known for achieving the best from
their craft.
Team 6: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Design: 15.5 metre monohull sloop
Crew: John Alexander (0) Victoria; Sandra Alexandra (0) Victoria; David Panton
(0) Victoria; Martin Hasket (0) Victoria; Arthur Ross (0) Victoria.
Being in their first race, this crew will be on a steep learning curve but
whatever their result they appear determined to maximise their enjoyment. As
one of the larger yachts in the race, given favourable conditions they should
do well.
Quote: This race requires so much training each week I am seriously
considering closing my medical practice to keep the miles up", Martin
Hasket, crew doctor and participation instigator.
Team 7: AWM Electrical
Design: 9.16 metre monohull sloop.
Crew: Brian Snare (0) George Town; Paul
Snare (0) George Town; Peter Crawford (7)
Scottsdale; Rodney Lockhart (1) Rosevears;
Christopher Watkins (0) Launceston.
Entered in the Cruising Division, AWM
Electrical will benefit from the motoring
allowance for a smaller yacht. The
experience of Peter Crawford will greatly
assist this team as he is know for his
perseverance especially in smaller yachts.
Quote: "Just to finish
is to win!" |

Design: Ketch. [Classics Division]
Crew: Bruce Potter (1), Launceston; Alan Campbell (1), Launceston. Mal Watts
(0) Rosevears; Jenny Atkins (0) Launceston; Will Potter (0), Launceston.
An entrant in the Classics Division.
The Royal Oak Rhona crew admire Tilman's oceaneering/mountaineering concept,
the basic gaff rigged vessels used and the raw human endeavour.
Quote: "May the seas and weather look
kindly upon us!"
Team 9: Maintenance Systems
Design: Adams 13
Crew: Peter Hesketh (4), Launceston; Gwyn Alway (); Craig Sly (3), Hobart;
David Ross (8), Hobart; Mark Rapley (1).
This Adams 13 class yacht is in with a real
chance of honours. With plenty of accumulated all-round
experience in the crew, Maintenance Systems is overdue
for a placing and has the potential to win the race.
Team 10: Camp Quality
Design: 9.55 m sloop
Crew: Benny Parsons (1), Ulverstone; Barry
Baker (0) Devonport; Carolyn Lynch (0)
Ulverstone; Lloyd Febey (9) Ocean Vista;
David Sweetman (3) Penguin.
A Tilman entrant raising
money for the charity Camp Quality
assisting children suffering from cancer.
Veteran runner Lloyd Febey will enter the
hallowed "Hall of Fame" this year
being the first runner to join with five
sailors who have achieved 10 races.
Camp Quality have renamed
their runners "Donatello" and
"Michaelangelo" because they love
Domino's pizzas and stay in their shells
(sleeping bags) all day unless they are
running. They also know nothing about
sailing - still! |
 |
Team 11: Family Express
Design: Adams 13
Crew: Derek Newington (0), Launceston; Justin Wells (0) Sandy Bay; Ian Meikle
(1) Sandy Bay; James Polson (1) Somerset; Rod Andrewartha (1) Bellerive.
This yacht has a proven record having won
the race in 1994 when skippered by Ken Gourlay. Adams 13
class of yachts have been popular in Three Peaks racing
and this is one of 5 known to have competed.
